Description

This image, based on a plate from American Ornithology (published 1808–1814), represents the earliest study of American birds. The predecessor of John Audubon, Alexander Wilson was a Scottish-American poet, naturalist, and illustrator, and heralded as “the Father of American Ornithology.” Wilson illustrated 268 birds in all, 26 of which had not been previously described. The inclusion of multiple species on the same plate is a result of the small budget Wilson had to work with. This piece comes unframed or framed. The unframed item measures 42" X 54", wood framed measures 46" X 58", and with acrylic box measures 44" x 56". Please choose from the drop down menu for framing or no framing. Please note this piece is made to order and may not be returned. The production time for the unframed version is approximately 2-3 weeks and the production time for the framed version is approximately 4-6 weeks. Click on images for greater detail.
